USES IN AROMATHERAPY
Mind/Emotional:
Bergamot essential oil is primarily used to soothe anger, frustration and depression, by decreasing action on the sympathetic nervous system. An excellent oil during emotional crisis, it promotes calmness and makes you feel more relaxed, especially when you feel exhausted and your mind is clouded with doubts and scattering thoughts.
A small study in Japan in 2015 showed that it is beneficial for anxiety and fatigue. This is a Happy Oil that makes you feel good during stressful times. Its clean, uplifting citrus aroma can enhance a restful sleep and brighten your day with clarity and focus.
It has an affinity with the liver meridian. It encourages the person needing Bergamot to release anger and pain that is being held back in the body. By imparting a feeling of optimism, it allows one to let go of accumulated tension and unexpressed anger, which if not released, can eventually lead to depression, mood swings and insomnia.
Body/Physical:
Bergamot essential oil’s cool and dry energy regulates Qi and clears Damp-Heat from the body, particularly restrains infections and inflammations such as cold sores, acnes, cysts, pimples, blackheads, chicken pox and shingles. A natural cicatrizant, it helps heal scars and other marks on the skin.
In Italy, Bergamot is commonly used for treating intestinal parasites and candida overgrowth. It promotes digestion and healthy bowel function; hence it is helpful in irritable bowel syndrome, urinary tract infection and flatulence.
The high linalool content of the oil means that it can help ease pain and inflammation by stimulating secretion of certain hormones which lessen the sensitivity of nerves to the pain.
