Extraction: Steam distilled from the fresh or partly dried leaves of lemongrass.
Aroma: Strong lemony, herbaceous-grassy scent with a distinct sweetness.
BOTANY
Originating from India but now growing throughout the world, Lemongrass is a fast growing aromatic herb that can grow up to 1 metre high. Also referred to as Cymbopogon, Lemongrass is one of approximately 55 other species of grasses in the Poaceae family of grasses.

USES IN AROMATHERAPY
Mind/Emotional:
Lemongrass essential oil can cleanse your energy system when being in negative aura or being surrounded by circles of negative people.
Its scent can boost energy and uplift negative mood by fostering a feeling of being refreshed and renewed. We love the oil because it helps open our mind to curiosity and encourage us to get out of our comfort zones.
On the paradox, the oil is also excellent for relieving stress, irritability, lethargy, nervousness, insomnia and depression.
Body/Physical:
In Ayurveda, Lemongrass essential oil is a stimulant that improves lymphatic drainage, allowing better circulation throughout the body. It can dissolve fatty deposits that lead to cellulite. As a detoxifying agent, it also works to increase perspiration to expel body toxins through sweating.
Used medicinally, Lemongrass soothing and analgesic properties make it a popular choice for massage therapy especially after hard workout to ease tight, stressed or overworked muscles and joint pain.
In some cultures where Lemongrass leaves were used to make ‘fever teas’, it earned the name of ‘fever grass’.
When diffused, its carminative properties provide relief to digestive system. It alleviates abdominal aches and eases digestive spasms.
Traditionally, Lemongrass is popularly used to vaporize to cleanse, disinfect and purify the air around the house.
The aldehydes in the oil means that diffusing or applying the oil can also help repel insects.
Known also to regenerate connective tissues, repair ligaments, parasympathetic nervous system and improve eyesight, it also the benefits in healing varicose veins and in kidney and bladder disorders.
When used topically, it acts as an antiseptic with purifying benefits for the skin. The Citral content can inhibit growth of harmful microorganisms. Hence, as an antimicrobial, it prevents wounds from getting infected.
SAFETY & SHELF LIFE
Safety: Has GRAS (Generally Regarded as Safe) status. However, it may have contraindications with drugs metabolized by CYP2B6. Avoid use on diseased, hypersensitive skin or children under 2 years. Dilute before using with a maximum dermal use level of 0.6%. A patch test should be performed before use for those with sensitive skin.
Pregnancy/Nursing: Not recommended during pregnancy and nursing.
Precautions: Keep out of reach of children. If pregnant or under a doctor’s care, consult physician. Avoid contact with eyes. Do not use internally unless instructed by a licensed aromatherapist or physician.
Shelf Life: 2-3 Years
HOW TO USE
Diffuse & Inhale: Breathe in your favorite essential oils using an essential oil/aroma diffuser or personal pocket inhaler.
Apply Topically: This essential oil is 100% pure and undiluted. To apply to the skin, dilute with a high quality carrier oils or Carrier Oils Complex. Refer to our dilution chart. We recommend performing a skin patch test when using a new essential oil topically.
